The world has gone crazy.

So, I just had the worst day of my life.

At around 1:30 PM today, at Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo City, Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr., Mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del Sur, his father, Secretary Nasser Pangandaman of the Department of Agrarian Reform, and company, beat my defenseless 56-year-old dad and my 14-year-old brother to a pulp because of some stupid misunderstanding on the golf course.

This is a golf course. I have been a golfer all my life, and I have never seen anything like this. NOTHING. This is hard to comprehend. And it happened to my own father and my own brother too. Right in front of my eyes.

My brother and I were playing golf at the South Course of Valley. We were on the 3rd hole, and we see two golf carts going past us, overtaking our flight, and setting up to tee off on the next hole. My dad goes up to them and asks them why they would do that, why they would overtake us without even asking for our permission. Golf etiquette 101. One of the guys says that they're with the flight in front of us. (So what? That doesn't give them the right to just pass us WITHOUT asking.) So, we go to the 5th hole. The flight behind us catches up with us, and asks us what caused the hold up. We said that this flight just slipped in front of our flight. So we complained to the marshall. We play the 5th hole and walk towards the next hole, where there is a teehouse, and both the flights in front of us were there, talking with the marshall. The mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del Sur talks with my dad. Things get heated up. Voices were raised. But never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever imagine that someone would pull out a punch. Apparently not. He attacks my father. His flightmates, maybe 2 or 3 of them, rush to his aid and beat up my father. My 56-year-old father. My younger brother and I could not just watch. We rushed to break the fight. My younger brother pleads to the mayor to please stop it. To not hurt my dad. To just stop. His words still ring through my head..."Sorry na po, sorry na po...tama na...tama na po..." With his hands in front of his chest in a praying position. PLEADING. The mayor socks him in the face. My brother defended himself. My dad is still on the ground getting clobbered. My brother is the same way. I try to stop the fight, but all I can do is stop one person. There were 4 or 5 of them attacking now.

Someone breaks up the fight. I thought it was all over. The mayor shouts to his caddy: "Hindi nila kami kilala! Sabihin mo nga sa kanila kung sino ako!" And believe me, I had no idea who this person was. But now I know. He's the person who, with 4 other men, beat up my 56-year-old father and my 14-year-old brother. He's the person who sacks a pleading 14-year-old kid in the face. He's a person who, I am sure, is gonna rot in hell.

I lash out, but my dad held me back. I was screaming my lungs out, shouting to this mayor, telling him about what he had done. I said: "Nakakahiya kayo. Singkwenta'y sais anyos ang tatay ko. And kapatid ko kakatorse anyos. Anong ilalaban nila sayo?"

The mayor looks at my brother, point to his face, and says, "Tatandaan kita!" And he tells me that my brother has a bad attitude and that I need to watch him. WHAT THE HELL?! So, my brother's bad for defending his father?!

We leave. We walk to the clubhouse to file a complaint. My brother asks for a doctor. My dad could barely walk. Their group comes to the clubhouse, sees my brother. Once again my brother pleads, says sorry, and is crying. He was CRYING, for crissakes. But no. The relentless mayor still punches him in the face, and then sees my dad and goes after my dad again. Him and his friend pull my dad to the ground, pulls at his feet, and steps on him like he's dirt. I run to him and try to hold him back, holding him back by his shirt, while this other guy and this girl tries to stop me. She tells me to just stop it. I scream in her face "they're beating my father up and you want me to stop?!" I pull at his shirt--I don't let go. All I can see was my dad being trampled on. I didn't even see my brother getting beat up.

People pull them away. I get my dad, and I saw my brother. His right ear was bleeding. I freaked out. I told the receptionists to bring my brother to the clinic. I pull my dad away. People were separating us.

My mom and my older brother come. I tell her Bino's right ear is bleeding. They both look like they could kill. My dad holds my brother off, I hold off my mom. When I finally got my mom under control, my older brother gets away and I hold him off. Two of the mayor's bodyguards pull out guns. I embraced my brother from the back, just holding him back, crying. The receptionists came to us, crying, hugging me, my dad, and my mom, whispering to us to just leave. "Maam, umalis na po kayo, may mga baril sila...Maam...umalis na po kayo please..."

I am pretty sure the Secretary of DAR did not take part in the fight, but he just watched all this happen. He watched two of his sons, as we figured out, the other guy was his son, too, beat up my father and my 14-year-old brother. He didn't do anything to stop it. And this person is what now? A cabinet member. A politician.

Sounds like something out of a movie, doesn't it? But this is what happened. TODAY. The day after Christmas. To my family. And all I ask for is JUSTICE. The people at Valley Golf did not seem to want to help us. None of the security guards even tried to stop the fight. Right in the clubhouse. I came back after the fight was over and talked to the receptionists. They say they did not see anything. The general manager of Valley Golf would not give us the names of the men who made my brother's ear bleed. It took him an hour. Maybe even more than that. He seemed to not want to help us. Because, we were against the SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRARIAN REFORM and the MAYOR OF MASIU CITY, LANAO DEL SUR. They were all scared.

The world has gone crazy. Two politicians beat up a defenseless 56-year-old father and his 14-year-old son. At a golf course. I swear to God, I thought golfers were decent people. You would think politicians were decent people. I guess not. I guess they gang up on 56-year-old men and beat up pleading 14-year-old kids.

Please pray for my dad, my brother and for my whole family. Please pray that we get JUSTICE. Oh God, please, give these people what they deserve.

Reposted on my blog. I also included my own thoughts.

Just do read my blog ayt? Ill help in spreading ur story through massive propaganda via the internet.

WTF is happening to the world nowaadays? nakakahiya siyang mayor ha, to tell you frankly he doesn't deserve the position. Just because he's a mayor doesn't mean he can do anything he wants.

nag-init kasi talaga ulo ko eh. akala mo kung sila kung makaasta. ang yayabang talaga. mga mukha lang namang pera. magaling lang sila pag election day pero while in position wala namang ginagawa. kaasar talaga. they don't have any sense of public service at all. at ganyan pa sila kung umasta. In our place, you don't manhandle defenseless people especially old men and young boys, because this entails stiff penalties handed down by Royal Houses on culprits. The Pangandamans are not immune to these heavy penalties, if found guilty. Clans will not take it sitting down even if they hide behind the skirt of GMA.
This behavior is un-Islamic, uncivilized and definitely anti-social.

It is really frustrating to read about stories like this, about politicians feeling they are superior to others because of their positions. They should know better that they are supposed to be servants of the people and not the other way around.
What makes this situation even worse is that it happened in a golf course. Obviously, they were playing golf, which is supposed to be a gentleman's game. And they do these kinds of acts. Nakakahiya!!!! They should be responsible for their actions!

I am scheduled to play on Wednesday at Valley Golf upon an invitation from a friend. As of a matter of fact, I am very excited to see the place as I have not been there for four decades. But after reading about this incident, I decided to beg off from playing at Valley as my way of protesting the horrible inaction of Valley's management. Valley, too, must be made to pay for allowing goons to lord it over the club. I guess the best way to punish it is to boycott.
On the abusive secretary and his children, I am as outraged as everyone else on how these supposed public servants behaved like goons who could do anything without fear of punishment. For indeed, unless the citizenry stands up to these abusive government officials, the way Bambi did (Kudos to you), I am almost sure that this will just end up among the many cases where the rich and powerful are allowed to get away with crime.
And yes, Bambi, I shall pray for you and your family.

Bambee: I am a practicing lawyer not only in the Philippines but also in the State of Texas, State of New York and the United States Federal District Courts. I have a regular radio program at DZRJ every Tuesday 8-9am on an advocacy to adopt the Jury Trial System as part of the Volunteer Against Crime & Corruption (VACC)projects. Unfortunately I am now in the U.S. and won't be back til 2nd week of Feb. I WOULD LIKE TO HELP YOU WITH EVERYTHING I COULD HELP YOU WITH. As a long time trial lawyer, however, I am aware of the many weaknesses of the Philippines legal system and how it seems that Philippine officials (Executive, Legislative and Judicial) do not really care about dispensing real justice to its citizens. Your father and brother's case can take 10-20 years particularly they are up against influential, powerful and moneyed foes. In the Philippines, Justice Delayed, Justice Denied is a truism and a stark reality. However,a Jury Trial should not take more than three (3) months even against a formidable foe or even against the brightest of lawyers. It is in this area of a Jury Trial that I can effectively help you, your Dad and brother. It will take a long discussion and explanation, but if you or your family want a speedy system of justice, email me. Good Luck to you, your family and the cause you are fighting for. Atty. Vic Velasquez at AttyVic@gmail.com

Dapat i-blacklist ng Valley Golf ang pamilya na to! Members ba sila? Di puwedeng payagan mag-golf ang mga bastos na katulad nila....

Something like this happened to me before to a much lesser degree. I was on a business trip from Zamboanga City to Jolo, Sulu. I booked a first class ticket (solo cabin) going there. I went to my assigned cabin when I get to the ship. After quite some time of being in the ship, I was approached by 2 armed men and a personnel of the ship. They told me that a politician from Sulu is on the ship and I have to vacate my cabin. Now what will you do if you are approached by armed men (bodyguards) making that request? Of course I vacated my place at baka di na ako makaalis sa Sulu!

But to my mind, I was thinking, that is this how these politicians treat the common folks in the south? To Bambee dela Paz and family, fight on! This is Manila not Mindanao.

The F*****G BULLIES OF VALLEY GOLF CLUB

What these sons of bitches have done is typical of low life politicians who think they have the license to hurt and abuse people just because they hold positions in government. These people are the scums of the earth who only respect those who carry guns. These cowards will never fight fair that's why they are always surrounded by armed bodyguards. They are scared to fight an old man and a young boy so they needed the bodyguards to do the fighting for them. Remove the guns, remove the bodyguards and watch them scamper away their tails between their legs. Wonder no more why these animals behave like their own kind the Abu Sayyaf. They have lived much too long in their abnormal society driven by violence that they do not know how to behave in a decent society. They must have thought Valley Golf Club is still part of their home town.

I just hope Bambina’s dad and brother can depend on the DOJ for some relief but knowing how Secretary Raul Gonzalez protects GMA’s people I have my doubts. If these animals are real decent people they would tender their resignation from their posts but unfortunately animals do not understand the meaning of the word decency. Whether GMA likes it or not, it cannot be helped that this will diminish her sagging image some more for keeping these bastards and weirdos in her cabinet.

guys, the support you're giving is AWESOME.

this blog has been reposted on so many filipino blogs / networks. my inbox this morning was filled with updates linking to this blog!

it was in today's paper that the DAR sec and co. have prepared a counter-suit and statement against bambee's family, as well as this medical report detailing the injuries they received from them.

with machinery like that, i guess the best way to help bambee's family would be to try to get some attention globally by the internet.

http://digg.com/people/Politician_mauls_56_year_old_and_14_year_old_on_golf_course

please digg the story. (it links to bambee's blog) digging it takes about the same amount of time to repost her story on your blogs, but this time, we could contribute to making this heard globally. :)

we're already mentioned in Newsweek as a failing democracy. let's show the world that people here still care about how politicians behave, and that we collectively do not condone this sort of behavior.

Bambee hang in there and beat these so called high ranking members of the community. From my experience (being a Filipino living in Australia) sometimes (more like most times) power gets to the Filipino and they don't seem to be able to handle it without bragging or acting as if they are a class above the rest of the community. Its important they note that its a title they carry not a special pass to be able to treat others like lower class citizens - they should also realise that these positions carry responsibilities and they focus more on doing these instead of wasting the money intended to 'rebuild' the once mighty Philippines. Good luck and 'keep your chin down whilst swinging'

i feel so sorry that such horrible people have hurt your family!

aside from filing charges against those monsters, i think you should file charges against Valley Golf if they continue to keep mum and turn a blind eye on this horrifying ordeal.

you can also call upon GOLF ASSOCIATIONS and other GOLFERS to help you, or at least, put pressure on VALLEY GOLF. as patrons of the company, how would they feel it such thing happened to them or their family? OTHER GOLFERS must be vigilant in not letting VALLEY GOLF get off the hook for not protecting your family and trying to sweep the incident under the rug.

IF VALLEY GOLF MANAGEMENT WILL KEEP ON BEING COWARDS, DO NOT PATRONIZE THEM. such company does not deserve golfers' money, if they will not start acting like HUMAN BEINGS.

Those freaks are a shame to our brother Muslims. They were thinking it was still some never-never-land in some remote lanao del sur town where they consider themselves kings. Nakakasuka kayo! People like you are really a big factor why our country is still in a mudhole! That's right, a BAD TREE naturally bears BAD FRUIT. PWEH!

The hairs on my back and on my arms just stood up after reading the blogger's narration. Kinilabutan ako, not only because of the vicious manner that this power-tripping Mayor and his companions did to the father and son, but especially when reading that the FATHER of this Mayor and a high-ranking government official DID NOT DO ANYTHING to stop his son from perpetrating the violence happening in front of his eyes.

I am praying that your father and brother will get well soon and that you will be given the justice that you truly deserve. I am also praying that somehow, our country will be able to fight against abusive government people and get rid of leaders who do not have the courage to right the wrongs even if these wrongs are happening in front of them.
