The world has gone crazy.

So, I just had the worst day of my life.

At around 1:30 PM today, at Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo City, Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr., Mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del Sur, his father, Secretary Nasser Pangandaman of the Department of Agrarian Reform, and company, beat my defenseless 56-year-old dad and my 14-year-old brother to a pulp because of some stupid misunderstanding on the golf course.

This is a golf course. I have been a golfer all my life, and I have never seen anything like this. NOTHING. This is hard to comprehend. And it happened to my own father and my own brother too. Right in front of my eyes.

My brother and I were playing golf at the South Course of Valley. We were on the 3rd hole, and we see two golf carts going past us, overtaking our flight, and setting up to tee off on the next hole. My dad goes up to them and asks them why they would do that, why they would overtake us without even asking for our permission. Golf etiquette 101. One of the guys says that they're with the flight in front of us. (So what? That doesn't give them the right to just pass us WITHOUT asking.) So, we go to the 5th hole. The flight behind us catches up with us, and asks us what caused the hold up. We said that this flight just slipped in front of our flight. So we complained to the marshall. We play the 5th hole and walk towards the next hole, where there is a teehouse, and both the flights in front of us were there, talking with the marshall. The mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del Sur talks with my dad. Things get heated up. Voices were raised. But never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever imagine that someone would pull out a punch. Apparently not. He attacks my father. His flightmates, maybe 2 or 3 of them, rush to his aid and beat up my father. My 56-year-old father. My younger brother and I could not just watch. We rushed to break the fight. My younger brother pleads to the mayor to please stop it. To not hurt my dad. To just stop. His words still ring through my head..."Sorry na po, sorry na po...tama na...tama na po..." With his hands in front of his chest in a praying position. PLEADING. The mayor socks him in the face. My brother defended himself. My dad is still on the ground getting clobbered. My brother is the same way. I try to stop the fight, but all I can do is stop one person. There were 4 or 5 of them attacking now.

Someone breaks up the fight. I thought it was all over. The mayor shouts to his caddy: "Hindi nila kami kilala! Sabihin mo nga sa kanila kung sino ako!" And believe me, I had no idea who this person was. But now I know. He's the person who, with 4 other men, beat up my 56-year-old father and my 14-year-old brother. He's the person who sacks a pleading 14-year-old kid in the face. He's a person who, I am sure, is gonna rot in hell.

I lash out, but my dad held me back. I was screaming my lungs out, shouting to this mayor, telling him about what he had done. I said: "Nakakahiya kayo. Singkwenta'y sais anyos ang tatay ko. And kapatid ko kakatorse anyos. Anong ilalaban nila sayo?"

The mayor looks at my brother, point to his face, and says, "Tatandaan kita!" And he tells me that my brother has a bad attitude and that I need to watch him. WHAT THE HELL?! So, my brother's bad for defending his father?!

We leave. We walk to the clubhouse to file a complaint. My brother asks for a doctor. My dad could barely walk. Their group comes to the clubhouse, sees my brother. Once again my brother pleads, says sorry, and is crying. He was CRYING, for crissakes. But no. The relentless mayor still punches him in the face, and then sees my dad and goes after my dad again. Him and his friend pull my dad to the ground, pulls at his feet, and steps on him like he's dirt. I run to him and try to hold him back, holding him back by his shirt, while this other guy and this girl tries to stop me. She tells me to just stop it. I scream in her face "they're beating my father up and you want me to stop?!" I pull at his shirt--I don't let go. All I can see was my dad being trampled on. I didn't even see my brother getting beat up.

People pull them away. I get my dad, and I saw my brother. His right ear was bleeding. I freaked out. I told the receptionists to bring my brother to the clinic. I pull my dad away. People were separating us.

My mom and my older brother come. I tell her Bino's right ear is bleeding. They both look like they could kill. My dad holds my brother off, I hold off my mom. When I finally got my mom under control, my older brother gets away and I hold him off. Two of the mayor's bodyguards pull out guns. I embraced my brother from the back, just holding him back, crying. The receptionists came to us, crying, hugging me, my dad, and my mom, whispering to us to just leave. "Maam, umalis na po kayo, may mga baril sila...Maam...umalis na po kayo please..."

I am pretty sure the Secretary of DAR did not take part in the fight, but he just watched all this happen. He watched two of his sons, as we figured out, the other guy was his son, too, beat up my father and my 14-year-old brother. He didn't do anything to stop it. And this person is what now? A cabinet member. A politician.

Sounds like something out of a movie, doesn't it? But this is what happened. TODAY. The day after Christmas. To my family. And all I ask for is JUSTICE. The people at Valley Golf did not seem to want to help us. None of the security guards even tried to stop the fight. Right in the clubhouse. I came back after the fight was over and talked to the receptionists. They say they did not see anything. The general manager of Valley Golf would not give us the names of the men who made my brother's ear bleed. It took him an hour. Maybe even more than that. He seemed to not want to help us. Because, we were against the SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRARIAN REFORM and the MAYOR OF MASIU CITY, LANAO DEL SUR. They were all scared.

The world has gone crazy. Two politicians beat up a defenseless 56-year-old father and his 14-year-old son. At a golf course. I swear to God, I thought golfers were decent people. You would think politicians were decent people. I guess not. I guess they gang up on 56-year-old men and beat up pleading 14-year-old kids.

Please pray for my dad, my brother and for my whole family. Please pray that we get JUSTICE. Oh God, please, give these people what they deserve.

I feel for you and your family. That Nasser Pangandaman Sr. needs so many body guards for a reason, and he will surely be haunted by this in his dreams forever. In most cases, people who do this have gotten away with it in the past. May your blog and the support of your many online readers who spread and archive help strengthen many Filipinos' fight for justice. Whenever someone searches Nasser Pangandaman's name on the Internet, this blog will follow him.

I think the "honorable" secretary should quit his post. To his credit, he did not joined the fight but then again, he did nothing to stop the scuffle. Or siguro nde na ma-kontrol yung mga anak nya. And with that, he better quit his damn post.

Yung anak nya na mayor, astang hari. Hindi yan nagi-isa mga tulad nila. Maraming ganyan.

To give them benefit of the doubt, I'll wait for their statement. There must be a reason pero kung ano man yun, sigurado nde sapat para i-bugbog-sarado yung Dad and Bro mo.

I feel for you.

Greetings Bambee,

It has been done. We have posted your family's ordeal to more than 3000 social sites and the world is outraged by this dastardly act of men with guns.

Take time to rest and reflect. I am sure you are having a hectic time thanking those who are sending you support.

The NET GENERATION will make this world flat and will spread the news when evil moves.

We will be behind you all the time until justice is served,

To the staff of Green Valley we can provide you the protection and better jobs if you need but do not be scared to TELL THE TRUTH. If we can keep abusive powerful politicians out of the greens of the Manila Golf Club so can you.

Have a blessed day Bambee and May God be with you and your family. We will be with you to face the trials next year.

It's really so sad to learn of how third world Filipinos in power treat their fellow countrymen. I wonder how wretched people 'in power' are... assuming their positions, as they were voted by the masses, to lead and to uphold justice. It only goes to show how our country is going to the dogs, as people in power have nothing else to do but waste good resources and wrangle as much as they can from the life of those who are oppressed. I hope that, if the country won't develop into a wealthy nation, those in power who abuse their authority ALL ROT IN HELL.

It's time to take action, words are not enought. It's quite obvious that people like those understand action more than words. They hurt you and your family...hurt them back 10-fold.

I empathize with what you and your family had experienced in the hands of those men. Unfortunately, they could not just accept the truth and had launched a counter-media campaign by saying it was your dad and your brod who started everything. I AM just wondering how can a 56 yr. old man and a 14 yr. old boy have the guts to go against them? If our court would even consider their allegations, then we know where this fight is going.
The fight is not only in our courts (which is unfortunate because many rely on our courts for justice!), there is the court of public opinion and the court of morality. Unfortunately also, when it was happening, the people who were present were so afraid to stop everything much less to testify. If this will continue, then the powerful and the vicious will dominate our society. kawawa naman tayo!
But we know we are more powerful than any government official, military official or leader. The people, when they act as one can not be abused by any leader no matter how powerful that leader is. We know that when we act as one, we can do anything and everything for everyone. But, that strength has become our weakness. We are divided. We have been divided. And as long as we care only for ourselves and not for everyone, incidents caused by people like those you encountered will be prevalent.
May this experience add a thread to a building up of a people who will not be dominated by irresponsible leaders.

Today, 29 December, the Mayor has issued statements over radio and maybe TV, stating the inverse of everything that has been stated here. He went on to say HE'S THE VICTIM.

It would be good if you could post some pics of the injuries sustained by your father and brother. I am not at all convinced about what he (the mayor) said.

This mayor is a public official, and as such, he should be the one careful of all his actions.

This is just a reflection of the bigger abuse done to our farmer brothers when congress bullied them and killed CARP by extending it to 6 months abolishing the compulsory acquisition. In connection, it's quite inconceivable to know that the secretary of DAR can stomach playing golf in a vast track of land (using golf cart)knowing that there are many landless countrymen the poorest of the poor dying in hunger. What a shame! I was an avid golfer too, but personally I just thought that I had to discontinue because of the land issue.

Gloria's term will end by 2010 by then the case will not be decided yet, so when a verdict will be handed down there will be no GMA to back him up, he will have no Cabinet position to brag of and his patsy son? don't worry about that prick, once he will go beyond bars he will be as meek as a lamb.

This Nasser Pangandaman Jr. should hang.

Since there is a very good chance this guy is going to get away with it, I say the public should rise up and lynch this guy. There are some people in the world who do not deserve to live, this Nasser idiot is one of them.

We should do this to all public officials and their families who act this way. They are public officials, they are supposed to serve the public, not lord over them.

There is no place for gangsters like this on the golf course or anywhere else in a civilized world. They deserve to be punished, jailed, and stripped of their civil rights.

Politicians or anyone in authority who abuse their position and think they are above all others are totally disgusting. If there is a way to get back at them, to picket, to protest, or to fight back, let us know. If justice will not be served swiftly and rightfully, let us know and we will support in whatever way needed!

I'll pray that you will get JUSTICE but, even if not (in this physical world), just remember this passage from the bible:

"Do not take revenge, dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to me. I will pay them back, declares the Lord."

God will make a way when there seems to be no way.

Hey, this is Marco Selorio from HOOPDREAMZ in Sydney Australia. A Facebook addict. Got this link sent to me by one of my managers from Manila ... I trust this is not a fictitious story, but in reading this blog I had a rush of blood.

I feel the anger, pain and embarrassment that these public servants have put your family through.

I just started learning how to play golf, and I was told about the ethics in playing the game. The people that bashed up your dad and bro crossed the line.

Take it all the way to the top of the food chain, get a lawyer and perhaps GMA and higher powers could take action.

I'll pass on this link to my Australian and Filipino media contacts.

Keep your head up, roll with the punches for now, because you have many options to fight back without resorting into further violence.

God bless.

As we pray for your dad, your brother Bino and your family, we must also ACT!

Fight for JUSTICE and NEVER GIVE UP!

Do not accept any "areglo", blood money, or any "padrino" that will end in a settlement!

Any settlement will benefit only the ABUSIVE!

If true that DAR's Pangandaman didn't lift a finger to stop his sons/his group, then he is ABUSIVE!

Otherwise, one word from him would have prevented the beating of a 56 yr old man and a teenage kid!

To fight for JUSTICE, we the FILIPINO PEOPLE must stay steadfast, courageous, not hide in Shame!

This could be a case of the PEOPLE OF THE PHILIPPINES vs. Pangandaman, et. al.

Support the people's rights and fight for JUSTICE to the end!

Keep fighting!

For country and epople!

Hi Madel (I was used to calling you Madel than Bambee back then). I hope that you still remember me. Anyway, I reposted your article in my multiply site just so more people would know that that fucking mayor is no mayor at all, that was a monster you've encountered!

Don't worry, I will always be praying for you and your family. God will have His way of making that monster learn from what he has done. Evil doers will have their karma.

I just hope that despite what happened, your family will still find a way to enjoy the holiday season, especially that it's almost New Year.

By the way, I salute to what you did, also to what your younger brother did. What brave souls. I saw both of you on tv, and the monster even tried to turn the tables upside-down; sorry for them because no matter what they do, no one would believe them.

Kudos to the brave soul.

Really terrible. But at least ONE LESSON to be learned from this is to be more DISCRIMINATING of the places you go to. Going to one place is one thing, being a member is an altogether more serious matter. Before having a membership to anything, you must take note of the people who will surround you and what kind of place it is. You're comitting yourself to go there plenty times because you will be a member.

I cannot help thinking this will not happen in Sta. Elena Golf because #1, firearms aren't allowed inside the country club, #2 bodyguards must wait outside for they have no business being in there and #3, members are expected to be proper and civil at all times.

You could have had more security at a better facility than this never-heard 'golf club.' Their staff's actions as you described it is enough evidence. They were like unplugged robots not knowing what to do during the situation when they were supposed to handle it.

No one deserves to be treated like that. But remember, it's true you get what you pay for. Cheap facility, cheap service and treatment.

Bambee, I was shocked with the way these supposed to be servants of the people had done with your family. They, the politicians are really rotten. My father who happened to be working with the government was also dismayed upon knowing the story. He was very sorry that there are people in the government who are "kups" and yet their institution paid their lives to protect them. What a pity, for us and for all.

God help us all.

JCL said...

This is Jc. Those government officials who did those despicable acts towards your father and brother should resign. No government official should be involved in the mauling of a 56year old and 14 year old boy. In The States an incident like this would push the politicians involved to step down and resign from office. iT should be the same here. No qestions asked. YOURE FAMILY SHOULD BE GIVEN JUSTICE.

I learned of what happened a couple of hours ago, while watching the news. It's shocking how these elected officials can stoop so low and be so inhumane, just for the sake of recognition. I mean, why the need to stress that he is someone in the government? It surely doesn't make him over and above basic courtesy.

The nerve of the mayor's dad to say that the whole incident was just one big misunderstanding. He's obviously in denial. Good thing the managementof Valley Golf filed a report that is to your benefit. I just hope they don't get threatened or paid off or something, which is something that I cannot consider to be beneath these cretins.

I wish you and your family justice and peace. We Filipinos with at least half a brain are here to support you.

this only shows how insecure these people are; still trying to establish their insignificant place in this world. it might take a very long time but actually kahit wala tayong gawin kakainin lang sila ng kanilang arrogance at magiispiral-down lang sila sa kanilang folly. Pero honestly if only the whole Philippines would know this (which i hope it would) let the Filipinos get back to them (literally) and put them to their uttermost shame. Sana gawin ito sa pamilya niya lalo na sa mga mahal niya sa buhay(anak, asawa, mga magulang), just to taste his own fucking medicine for his pathetic existence. You can let the vigilantes do the job (pa-kidnap sila, nakawan ang kanilang kayamanan, o sunugin ang bahay). Sometimes I do really doubt if the government would do anything about these. This way the more who know about your plight, the more chances that there will be someone who will do their part to protect you. And thru letting people know about this, more and more eyes and ears will be focused on this so that the powers that be shall have to fairly decide on this matter and give justice to their deeds. I am sorry for what happened to you and to your family. I myself have a 10 year old who I occasionally bring along when I play golf. I wouldn't want her to witness such barbaric outburst. However, it should have been enough that your Dad mentioned the other group's improper behavior to the course marshall and let them handle the problem. I just feel that he overreached when he still had to confront and go on a shouting match with the other group.

I am appalled at the way your Dad and your brother was mauled by the other group. But I cannot take away any blame from your Dad too. Golf is supposed to be a gentleman’s game and a gentleman is someone who should think about other’s well being. The other group broke that code and so did your Dad when he forgot he was with you and your brother.

For one, that mosquito of a mayor is under the mercy of DILG and he can be suspended immediately pending investigation. The same thing goes with the Secretary of Agriculture.

Agrarian Reform Sec. Nasser Pangandaman on Monday apologized for an alleged mauling incident involving his son, his son's bodyguards, and two golfers at the Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo City Friday afternon
In an interview over radio dzBB, Pangandaman said as a government official, it was his responsibility to pacify both camps regarding the incident that he said no one wanted to happen.
"Bilang isang government official ako ay humihingi ng paumanhin sa nangyari, hindi naman po kagustuhan ng bawat isa ito (As a government official, I am apologizing for the incident, no one wanted this to happen)," said Pangandaman.

This is a total abuse of power.

There is no justification for what happened.

Even if you are at fault (which you are not), there is no justification whatsoever to assault and beat up another person.

These politicians have violated the trust of the Filipino people and should be removed from office.

These things have been happening for a long time because a greater mass of the Pinoy really have not fully understood what it means to be in public office. On the one hand, public officials regard their posts as positions of privelege. On the other, the masses oblige by rendering unto them a kind of deference & reverence worthy of a Godfather. No wonder they behave like they own their territories. They're "public servants" forgodsakes! The elder Pangandaman should resign or if he does not have the courage and decency to do so, be fired by Malacanang. At the very least.

Know what, i was praying while reading your narration of the incident - that God directly and immediately punishes all of them - the Mayor and all maulers who were with him and that God takes them away now, including the father who is the DAR Secretary. (whatever "takes them away" means - away from us all especially away from you and your family). They are listed now in God's hands! Divine justice will be unto them. So mote it be!

I think it's about time Valley Golf follows the example of Manila Golf and not allow bodyguards beyond the lobby. Politicians tend to be more aggressive when they are surrounded by bodyguards. They're actually cowards at heart.
If proven to be guilty, I also think the bad guys in this story should be banned in all golf clubs forever. They don't deserve to play golf. They should be advised to take up boxing instead.

Bambee,
I'm from Vancouver BC Canada and was watching TV patrol yesterday was shocked really of what had happened to your dad and brother. What come first to my mind watching the news was your family's safety.
I want to speak to you sana.

i don't think tulfo can help.

and i think many of the dirty works are planned on the golf course.

And never ever think that politicians are good. i have my story to share, about how politicians get a lot of money on their project. I'm a programmer in a company and i do analyze how the system works. and i can't create a good program because of their hocus pocus!

and businessmen are willing the give those politicians lahat ng gusto nila.

and we almost get a program project where in the kickback is 2x the original project price!!!

i saw the link on tacK's multiply blog, and I'm gonna link on this too.

the world had gone wild since there is money and power.

Damn politicians!

More power to you. Its about time we fight back against the abuses of these politicians. They steal our money and to add insult to injury they act as if they own the entire place. We will spread the news to as many publications as we can.

nyways, i think it would be best if you contact the media (print and tv) re the matter. i think the incident is worthwhile to be heard.

Karma, my dear... have faith that this will go back to those bastards ten-fold. This truly bothers me because my parents play in Valley Golf regularly and God knows I don't want something like this to happen to them. I myself had a confrontation with a celebrity there before and the staff sided with the celebrity. After which, I didn't hang out there anymore.

Rest assured that we're all spreading the word on and offline. We're all praying for your father, your brother and the rest of your family.

I am more concerned about Bino and how this incident will affect his life. I am sure the Ateneo community will do all it can to support him from now on until he fully recovers e.g. physical, mental and psychological & spiritual aspects.

I shall continue to pray that all will be well specially for the little kid!!

Like everyone else who posted a comment, I'm appalled by the behavior of the mayor and the cabinet member...the son and his father!

WE CONDEMN THEIR BEHAVIOR...totally inconsistent with how to behave as human beings! But let's face it, they ARE human beings, who somehow resorted to crazy behavior! So, again, we condemn their behavior, but we still have to respect them as human beings.

So, what do we do? Apply the full force of the law, but we pray for them and earnestly pray that they will realize the insanity of their behavior, and REFORM!...because we have to admit, they are still our brothers...and regardless of how insanely they behaved, that will always be true, that they are our brothers...forever!

So, again, what do we do? So many people expressed their sympathy and promise of prayers. These are good, and needed. But prayers and sympathy are not enough...and admittedly, I belong in that category of people who can only pray and sympathize.

I'm so glad that we have people like "TERIDON," (email address: teridon18@gmail.com)one of those who posted a comment and PROMISED LEGAL AID to bring the mayor and his father to justice. CHEERS! We salute you "Teridon." May there be more people like you!...and who likewise will bring this issue/concern to its proper conclusion. God bless you; and God bless our country.

Politicians are bad, more evil (especially male politicians). They cloak themselves in goodness but their evil selves always try to break free. Corrupted by power, they have no right to be placed in such authority.

That's why our country never advances. We are all drowned in a lot of greedy politicians' ambitions.

God bless you.

Bambee, we will pray for you, even then back in college, Hussien had his bodyguards beat up a schoolmate at Ateneo de Cagayan because of some petty issues. It doesn't take them to be politicians to be able to do that. They are just that, barbaric to the core.

i don't blog. infact i had to register an account to be able to post a comment here. i was drawn to your blogspot after reading the inquirer.net article. it is an injustice such as this that one could not just sit back and don't do anything. you can really get angry, no rage in anger, at these people! who do they think they are? kings of this country? and this cabinet secretary..isn't that department supposed to be already abolished for a complete failure in the agrarian reform sector? well, what can you say? these are the same people who commit graft and corrupton at the expense of the poor and the helpless, including myself, of this country. we have seen a lot of these atrocities committed in so many forms in our government and in many other places in the philippines. i think they will just get away with it and commit the same to other people. i bet one lady in malacanang would even act as his godmother. but i maybe wrong. i hope i am. i hope your family gets the justice you deserve! keep us posted.

I'm also a golfer and golf is a game only for gentlemen not a gang lords.

DAR Secretary and his son should be banned in all golf clubs and golf courses. Kasalanan nyo na kayo pa ang galit!

Tsk tsk tsk... nakakahiya... I don't know what GMA will do... They are only for power not for public service...

Your blog will be on our FGA site too here in Riyadh! We support you!

I heard the story first on the news and read it in your blog later. I can't express in words how I feel. Your experience is a very traumatic one and even though injuries may heal, it will leave a scar psychologically. But I think that the experience has showed many people how your family stood with each other in the face of danger. Your loyalty and love for each other will see you through rough waters. Rest assured also that there are people whose sympathies are with you and that we pray for your Family specially for your Dad and brother and for justice to prevail.

Just read your blog. I'm so sorry for what happened to your father and brother. So it's true after all, and very unfortunately at that, that the major reason your country has not moved forward all these years is the utter lack of discipline and morals in your leaders -- from top to bottom. Then those who replace them simply follow suit and are even worse. It's like cancer -- it mestastizes and is almost impossible to cure. I don't know how people can live a decent life over there. I don't understand how your people can easily smile and pretend as if nothing happened.

I'll spread the word. In the meantime, please be careful.
