The world has gone crazy.

So, I just had the worst day of my life.

At around 1:30 PM today, at Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo City, Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr., Mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del Sur, his father, Secretary Nasser Pangandaman of the Department of Agrarian Reform, and company, beat my defenseless 56-year-old dad and my 14-year-old brother to a pulp because of some stupid misunderstanding on the golf course.

This is a golf course. I have been a golfer all my life, and I have never seen anything like this. NOTHING. This is hard to comprehend. And it happened to my own father and my own brother too. Right in front of my eyes.

My brother and I were playing golf at the South Course of Valley. We were on the 3rd hole, and we see two golf carts going past us, overtaking our flight, and setting up to tee off on the next hole. My dad goes up to them and asks them why they would do that, why they would overtake us without even asking for our permission. Golf etiquette 101. One of the guys says that they're with the flight in front of us. (So what? That doesn't give them the right to just pass us WITHOUT asking.) So, we go to the 5th hole. The flight behind us catches up with us, and asks us what caused the hold up. We said that this flight just slipped in front of our flight. So we complained to the marshall. We play the 5th hole and walk towards the next hole, where there is a teehouse, and both the flights in front of us were there, talking with the marshall. The mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del Sur talks with my dad. Things get heated up. Voices were raised. But never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever imagine that someone would pull out a punch. Apparently not. He attacks my father. His flightmates, maybe 2 or 3 of them, rush to his aid and beat up my father. My 56-year-old father. My younger brother and I could not just watch. We rushed to break the fight. My younger brother pleads to the mayor to please stop it. To not hurt my dad. To just stop. His words still ring through my head..."Sorry na po, sorry na po...tama na...tama na po..." With his hands in front of his chest in a praying position. PLEADING. The mayor socks him in the face. My brother defended himself. My dad is still on the ground getting clobbered. My brother is the same way. I try to stop the fight, but all I can do is stop one person. There were 4 or 5 of them attacking now.

Someone breaks up the fight. I thought it was all over. The mayor shouts to his caddy: "Hindi nila kami kilala! Sabihin mo nga sa kanila kung sino ako!" And believe me, I had no idea who this person was. But now I know. He's the person who, with 4 other men, beat up my 56-year-old father and my 14-year-old brother. He's the person who sacks a pleading 14-year-old kid in the face. He's a person who, I am sure, is gonna rot in hell.

I lash out, but my dad held me back. I was screaming my lungs out, shouting to this mayor, telling him about what he had done. I said: "Nakakahiya kayo. Singkwenta'y sais anyos ang tatay ko. And kapatid ko kakatorse anyos. Anong ilalaban nila sayo?"

The mayor looks at my brother, point to his face, and says, "Tatandaan kita!" And he tells me that my brother has a bad attitude and that I need to watch him. WHAT THE HELL?! So, my brother's bad for defending his father?!

We leave. We walk to the clubhouse to file a complaint. My brother asks for a doctor. My dad could barely walk. Their group comes to the clubhouse, sees my brother. Once again my brother pleads, says sorry, and is crying. He was CRYING, for crissakes. But no. The relentless mayor still punches him in the face, and then sees my dad and goes after my dad again. Him and his friend pull my dad to the ground, pulls at his feet, and steps on him like he's dirt. I run to him and try to hold him back, holding him back by his shirt, while this other guy and this girl tries to stop me. She tells me to just stop it. I scream in her face "they're beating my father up and you want me to stop?!" I pull at his shirt--I don't let go. All I can see was my dad being trampled on. I didn't even see my brother getting beat up.

People pull them away. I get my dad, and I saw my brother. His right ear was bleeding. I freaked out. I told the receptionists to bring my brother to the clinic. I pull my dad away. People were separating us.

My mom and my older brother come. I tell her Bino's right ear is bleeding. They both look like they could kill. My dad holds my brother off, I hold off my mom. When I finally got my mom under control, my older brother gets away and I hold him off. Two of the mayor's bodyguards pull out guns. I embraced my brother from the back, just holding him back, crying. The receptionists came to us, crying, hugging me, my dad, and my mom, whispering to us to just leave. "Maam, umalis na po kayo, may mga baril sila...Maam...umalis na po kayo please..."

I am pretty sure the Secretary of DAR did not take part in the fight, but he just watched all this happen. He watched two of his sons, as we figured out, the other guy was his son, too, beat up my father and my 14-year-old brother. He didn't do anything to stop it. And this person is what now? A cabinet member. A politician.

Sounds like something out of a movie, doesn't it? But this is what happened. TODAY. The day after Christmas. To my family. And all I ask for is JUSTICE. The people at Valley Golf did not seem to want to help us. None of the security guards even tried to stop the fight. Right in the clubhouse. I came back after the fight was over and talked to the receptionists. They say they did not see anything. The general manager of Valley Golf would not give us the names of the men who made my brother's ear bleed. It took him an hour. Maybe even more than that. He seemed to not want to help us. Because, we were against the SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRARIAN REFORM and the MAYOR OF MASIU CITY, LANAO DEL SUR. They were all scared.

The world has gone crazy. Two politicians beat up a defenseless 56-year-old father and his 14-year-old son. At a golf course. I swear to God, I thought golfers were decent people. You would think politicians were decent people. I guess not. I guess they gang up on 56-year-old men and beat up pleading 14-year-old kids.

Please pray for my dad, my brother and for my whole family. Please pray that we get JUSTICE. Oh God, please, give these people what they deserve.

angel,

Were you also at Valley golf at the time of the incident? Did you actually see how things transpired? How can you be sure that the accounts of Bambee are true?

I may an idiot, at least I don't believe the blogs of just anybody.

May you too be blessed this year with a brain!!!

Happy New Year

Ramon said...

@verum: it's good that you're a skeptic - so am I by nature. But let's review this.

Let's assume that these are true:
- elder dela Paz was beaten up
- younger dela Paz was beaten up
- Pangandamans were there with their body guards

If the elder Pangandaman started it by poking the mayor with an umbrella, should his child get beaten up as well? Are the body guards supposed to beat up or just restrain them? Are they supposed to kick them while they're on the ground?

This are not rhetorical questions.

verum said...

Ramon,

Very good that you are a skeptic. Your assumptions are true, however, the bodyguards were not there! The bodyguards did not at anytime join in the fray. I believe Bambee mistook the security of Valley as a bodyguard (wearing a beige polo barong)!

Also, the elder de la paz was not beaten up. I have had my shares of fights in my time as a youth. If I was beaten like how Bambee portrayed her father to be beaten up, I could not walk normally back to the clubhouse from the 6th tee. And I would not be shouting back expletives to the brother of the Mayor back at the clubhouse.

Being struck while on the ground? Yes it maybe too much? But the point is please do not paint the de la paz as the victims, the elder de la paz PROVOKED the Mayor without reason.

Anonymous said...

That mayor for that extremely small town has to act big aside from the fact that his crass conduct means that he may act that way because he has a small dick! I hate those assholes!

Ramon said...

@verum: it seems that you had first hand experience of the event. I can only deduce from different facts I found on this blog post and on the newspapers.

I suppose we would like to know if the guards in brown barongs belonged to the mayor or the clubhouse because that would make a huge difference.

However, even then, the people that have voiced out there opinions were right - his man is a public official that has to have higher standards of behaviour. Yes, he can get angry and protect himself, but if he was part of the beating, then he does not deserve his post.

Furthermore, if the elder swore back at them in the clubhouse, that does not constitute another beating. Again, if the clubhouse guards did it, then that would change the story greatly.

You are right CFA-Greenwich. We need action "in addition" to prayers. We just hope that this blog will move justice into action. But, who will really act on this? Judge who? Police who? Lawyer who? hummmmmm, with the kind of DOJ Sec we have? another public official who can be so tactless many times... judge who?

verum said...

Ramon,

The bodyguards were not involved as they were not in the course. The brown barong guards were of Valley and they only helped to stop the fray. The Sec nor the Mayor did not start the fray.

Dear Ate Bambee,

@verum

Whether or not elder Dela Paz provoked the Mayor, that still does not excuse the fact that beat a 14 year old boy senseless.

From an impartial view point, sure, it is possible that certain facts in the original blog post may have gotten blurred by the gravity of what happened. Based on what I read, about how so few of the valley golf people did not or could not help (out of fear of the Mayor) the guards in brown could have just as easily ran to aid the Mayor and Sec for similar reasons.

Also, I would have to doubt that the body guards were elsewhere. What good is a bodyguard who is nowhere to be found? I'd imagine they were at the scene, at least nearby.

It all really boils down to her (disidido/Bambie) word against theirs (Mayor and Sec).

Who do you think has more skeletons in their closet?

Who would have more reasons to spin a scandal this crazy and stupid? ...a teen-aged girl? Or a Politician who acts like he's still in the sandbox, bullying kids for lunch money?

Yes it does take two to start a fight. But regardless, even if that's true, and it is the other way around. Nothing that happened, EITHER WAY, makes it acceptable or forgivable for 5 armed and trained guards to beat the crap out of an unarmed 56 year old man, AND his 14 year old son.

EVEN if Dela Paz overtook the Mayor and his father, that still does not at all warrant what took place. Politics don't really have that much to do about it, its just that one of them is a politician, but the issue is more on their behavior.

No matter what was said by the Dela Paz father and son, or done by them for that matter. They did not at all deserve what was done to them.

aequitas said...

verum,

you seem like an intelligent person, so let me give you some things to think about:

- you speak of provocation. the mayor's flight overtook the de la pazes' flight without asking, prompting the argument that started the fight in the first place. this was a provocation. anything the de la pazes could have done after this point was only a reaction.

- does poking a man with an umbrella give that man the right to beat up (or allow other people to beat up) the person holding the umbrella, as well as his 14-year-old son? or do only DAR secretaries and their sons enjoy this privilege?

- the fact remains that more than one person ganged up on the elder de la paz with the intent to do physical harm. it was an uneven match. this constitutes "beating someone up" by the standards of normal, civilized people everywhere.

- official news reports already have the DAR chief apologizing for his sons' and their bodyguards' involvement in the fray, so your claims of bambee fabricating the involvement of the bodyguards are moot, unless the DAR chief was lying about that too. until the pangandaman family clarifies that the bodyguards were NOT involved, i see no reason why we shouldn't take bambee's word for the truth in this case.

- the de la pazes have proven that they have the courage to speak up against the pangandamans. the elder de la paz had even confronted the pangandamans when the latters' flight so rudely overtook theirs. how effectively did you think you could argue that if such a man was "beaten up," he could no longer hurl curses at the people who hurt him and his son?

please go back to the persons who paid you to comment on bambee's blog and tell them to give you more convincing lies to write about. i doubt you are among the members of the pangandaman family who were present in valley golf during the incident, because they have proven by their actions that they lack the brains and self-control required for civilized discussion.

Ian V. Martinez said...

This was posted from one of my egroups in reaction to e-news clips about the incident:

"Physical injuries? That's a minor offense. I think the offense is being mischaracterized. Remember that the perps drew guns while unlawfully restraining the victims and beating them up in the process. There is unlawful restraint because with the guns pointed at them, the victims cannot leave or run away. The guns plus five men surrounding them completely intimidated them into remaining where they are and accept the beating. This is kidnapping. In kidnapping, you don't have to actually physically bring the victim to another place and ask for ransom. It is enough to either physically restrain the individual or restrain him with intimidation. This is what prosecutors here in the U.S. charge in cases like this. The use of a gun or guns during the commission of the crime should earn the perps more time in the can. Here in the U.S., that's automatic five years. And that's separate from the kidnapping charge. I'm sure there is such a law in the Philippines too. Plus, I'm sure the bodyguards don't have the legal permit to carry guns in public places like a golf course. This should earn them another 15 years for illegal possession of a firearm. Even if they have a permit to carry, you cannot flash or brandish a gun in order to intimidate or cause serious bodily harm to a citizen. Kidnapping with the use of a firearm should entitle the perps to a term of life imprisonment. There should be 2 life terms because the kidnapping occurred twice, once in the golf course, and the second in the club house. Of course, the question is, is the Fiscal of Antipolo courageous enough to pursue this course of action? Filing a charge for serious physical injuries is just too cowardly and another injustice to the victims. Also, I noticed from the statement of the victims' family member who withnessed the event, that the perps committed the crime with the color of authority, one of them being a current mayor of an inconsequential town somewhere in the wilds of Mindanao. And they gained encouragement from the presence of their father, too, a cabinet member. Shouldn't the people raise a stink over this? Shouldn't ordinary citizens send letters of complaints to their congressmen and senators, including Arroyo, to stamp out this grave abuse of a person's government authority and position? Remember, this could happen to YOU!!"

bMd said...

@Verum, sorry buddy, your argument is rather flimsy.

But then again, taking into consideration the alleged gross lapse of judgment and self control of Pangandaman, maybe he also sucks at picking bodyguards.

I'm quite certain that the bodyguards were there, because:

#1 When Bambie mentions that her older brother and mother arrived with baseball bats, the guards apparently drew their guns. That is not something normal security guards who SHOULD have been trying to keep the peace, would (or at least should) have done.

#2 Any halfway skilled bodyguard would not leave the person they're supposed to protect, unprotected out in the open, or in a public place.

#3 Why would Valley Golf guards beat up on someone who was not even fighting with them? Their job is to keep Valley Golf Secure. Not kiss a dirty Mayors ass.

Even if it was Valley Golf's guards that did the beating, its still just messed up. If they were Valley Golf employees, they most likely wouldn't be so anymore.

~~~~~
"Maam, umalis na po kayo, may mga baril sila...Maam...umalis na po kayo please..."
Why would the receptionist say "sila" if it were fellow Valley golf staff? The receptionist was obviously referring to the bodyguards.
So DAR Secretary's 2 sons, and 5 bodyguards. 7 grown men (5 of which have possible military background) beating up a 56 year old and a 14 year old pair of civilians?... Hmmm, one has to wonder...
Aequitas's points are very sound. At this point, the public has very little cause to doubt Bambee's words. The Pangandamans have been involved in shady activities in the past, not counting the elder's incompetence with land reform, and their unchecked show of violence is simply within their character.
I also agree that we should see how investigations go, but it's hard to judge which parties might be impartial and which might not be. I sincerely hope the sphere of influence of the Pangandamans do not extend to the DOJ and the Antipolo Police, because they seem to have Valley Golf well in hand already.
These despicable self serving hoodlums should not be in power as they don't serve the country at all. They are scum of the earth. I pray for your family as you go thru the stress of Phil justice.
Mahirap ang kalaban as they are close to Arroyo. The judge can be bought. Believe me, as it happened to us in Metro Manila. Good thing with novena and prayers, justice prevailed. They might intimidate you to settle. But with God and Mama Mary, justice too will prevail for yor family.
I heard that the rotten mayor is asking for an apology. This means that its true and he got hit by the media and maybe the exchange of the links helped.
I reposted this in my blog.
All I could say is he is one big jerk who should be behind bars. Whats up with the power tripping anyway?
Anyway, once charges are pressed, I am pretty sure your family would win. We are all praying for it.
jppetines, it is possible that there is one or there are 2 or more in this blog who may be for and/or with the Mayor Mauler and his bodyguards. Also, maybe, there are valley golf staffers who are in this blog... I say to the pro-maulers and pro-Mayor and pro-Pangandaman and of course to the Pangandamans and maulers themselves, "makarma na kayo at we beg Allah and our God to punish you now". 2010 is still far. Justice should be given now in favor of Bino and Mr.de la Paz!
I feel for you and understand your frustration.
We experienced this in Santa Elena Golf Course a year ago when a group behind us would T-off off even though they knew we were still within range. When they caught up with us in one of the refreshment areas, a member of that group came up to us and identified himself as a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the members of his group were also high ranking officers. He said they were in a hurry and wanted to play through, (even though they knew the course was packed with foursomes ahead of us). We politely explained to them that the course was full and even if we let them play through, they would still not go any where. He kept insisting and it seemed like he was not going to take no for an answer, so instead of arguing with them and stressing ourselves (since we were there to relax) we let them go.
My point is, I guess rank (in your case, politicians) has its privilidge in this country. Maybe we were lucky letting them play through thus avoiding an incident over something as stupid as that. When we reported this to the Golf course management, they just politely said, "Pasensya na kayo, thats just how the system is here".
Yup, only in the PI...
I do hope something good comes out this and the guilty get punished.
I saw you in the morning show today and I couldn't help but feel the outrage and great disgust against these arrogant and immature tax-sucking politicians.
Don't be afraid but watch your back. These type of people who can do despicable things in public are capable of using their easily-earned people's money to make your life even harder in a clandestine way.
You are in our prayers.
It is for this very reason that, though we love the Philippines so much we decided to leave.I feared for events like this and for the safety of my family having no bodyguards who are trained to wreack havoc on helpless people.Over here, it is refreshing to see our politicians use the same public parking lot and sidewalk as they make their way to work at the state parliament house.Most of them don't have bodyguards not even drivers. In both public and private golf courses the atmosphere is both convivial and polite...strangers even halep you look for your golf ball as caddies are a luxury down here. I shall pray that Justice be served and that God continue to protect you and your family. I am an emergency physician and my work is quite stressful, but I always enjoy a relaxing time on the fairways with my wife and my youngest son (8 Y/o) who laughs at my slices and giggles at my 4-putts...from 4 feet. I wish you continue your love for the game and let not these cowards discourage you.
I don't think we could ever expect anything good, much less, sound judgment from this kind of politicians -- and I mean in and out of office.
Not only did the mayor acted like he owned the place, he obviously also felt he had the right to physically abuse people and traumatize minors.
We don't want people like these having anything to do with spending taxpayers' money and running our country. They are just common criminals.
Rita,
That is why there is a need among us here ih this blog to join hands for a change in 2010 national elections.
Let us bind our forces together to call for a CHANGE in the way this country is being run by these asshole politicians.
There is I think a call for a gathering somewhere there in Manila for sort of discussions , but I don't know the place and date.
Can someone in this blog tell me where it be held? and when?
You see I am based here in Butuan City, I saw many abuses of these Muslims.
That is why I doubted on whether this government will sack Pangandaman as DAR sickretary.
Because this administration have even placed many Muslim regional directors.
Anybody please who knew the venue of that meeting there in Manila because I will attend!
Let's give it to those who think the mayor was the victim.
Let's even give it the benefit of the doubt that the DE LA PAZ's were the ones who provoked everything and were the bullies.
STILL... the PANGANDAMANS had no excuse to hit back. NOT AT ALL even if anyone should claim "self defense," or "they're just humans." None of that holds water.
Why? Because they are public officials! They have no right to push their weight around EVEN IF THEY ARE THE ONES WHO SEEM TO BE THE ONES PUSHED AROUND.
Public officials are in the position of power and authority. As such, there is no longer any level playing field. They are always several notches ahead of anyone.
Heck... in a case like this, they don't even deserve to claim self-defense.
So now, we cannot blame anyone who will claim they have been beaten up by any public official because public oficials are always several notches above any mere mortal.
I'm sorry... Mayor Pangandaman et al: you deserve all the blame for this incident.
I was reading the inquirer today and this DAR Chief has the nerve to say that his family is suffering too and that bloggers need to stop condemning them?
In other countries, acts such as those perpetrated by public officials are answered with violent riots to teach the government a lesson; but unfortunately we Filipinos are classified as an apolitical bunch, who are sensitized and thereby tolerate this moral corruptness in the hands of the very people who are supposed to serve the masses.
Is your family filing charges?
Just read another blog of another version in
http://hunnyjodipattycakes.blogspot.com/2008/12/other-side-of-story.html
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY
Their side has been heard over and over on television, radio and print. The average person who would see, hear and read about their story would indeed feel for them completely, and have nothing but anger and hatred for the other party. I’ve read her blog from her BlogSpot, and they sure sounded like the aggravated party on her blog.
I am posting the incident that happened at the south course of Valley Golf and Country Club that fateful day of December 26, 2008 between the families of Pangandaman and dela Paz. But this is not Delfin’s and his children’s side; I am retelling the details of the incident here on behalf of the Pangandamans.
On December 26, 2008, Friday, at around eleven in the morning, the group of Secretary Nasser Pangandaman registered at the Valley Golf Country Club to play golf. Since there were eight of them playing, they divided into two flights, with the Secretary and his companions on the first flight, and Hussein, Nasser JR and two others on the second. In golf terms, a flight is a division of players within a golf tournament or game. Angelo Pangandaman, Hussein’s eight year old son tagged along with the second flight (Nasser Jr’s), since no one would be able to watch him at the clubhouse.
Nasser Jr and his friend, Farah Locsin arrived late at the golf course and followed their flightmates at Hole No. 4 of the South Course of Valley. It was a convoy of two golf carts, one of which was Nasser Jr’s and the second was the golf marshal’s who was escorting them and the caddies. Here, Bambee narrated in her blog: “My brother and I were playing golf at the South Course of Valley. We were on the 3rd hole, and we see two golf carts going past us, overtaking our flight, and setting up to tee off on the next hole. My dad goes up to them and asks them why they would do that, why they would overtake us without even asking for our permission.” Mr. Delfin dela Paz reacted by protesting at what seemed to be an overtaking of flight, in which Nasser Jr explained to the elder dela Paz that they did not overtook their flight but simply tried to catch up with their flightmates at Hole No. 4. He further explained that they, like the dela Paz’s had earlier lined up to play and were already registered at the flight before theirs. Thinking that things had been cleared up, Mr. dela Paz said, “Okay, kortesiya lang” (”Okay, just seeking courtesy“) .
When the 2nd flight of Nasser Jr. already played hole no. 4 which is a par 3, and Nasser Jr. was still outside of the green trying to pitch his ball into the green, the flight of dela Paz hit their shots into the green which almost hit Hussein without shouting “Fore!”. In golf terms, “fore” is a word of warning yelled out by a player who has hit an errant shot. If your shot is in danger of hitting or landing very close to another player or group of players on the course (for instance, if you slice a ball into an adjoining fairway), you should yell “fore!” to warn players to watch out. Surprised, though sensing trouble which they deemed to choose to avoid, they allowed the other dela Paz player to hit his shot so they can peacefully resume and concentrate on their playing. At this point, the caddy of Nasser Jr also took the 8 year-old Angelo to stay behind the golf cart to avoid being hit by golf balls coming from the dela Paz players.
On Hole No. 5, after the 2nd Pangandaman flight hit their drives into the fairway and before they could hit their second shots, the dela Paz players again hit their drives without warning the Pangandamans. Puzzed and surprised, they asked among themselves why the flight behind them were doing this to them as they could be hit by their (dela Paz’s) golf balls. When Nasser Jr’s flight reached the green of Hole No. 5 and after holing out, they joined the 1st flight of Sec. Pangandaman and took their break at the teehouse. During their break, the marshal approached Nasser Jr, stating that the dela Paz’s were complaining that there were five of them in their group and why they overtook the dela Paz flight. Nasser Jr. reiterated to the marshal what he had already explained to the elder del Paz, to which his knowledge the former had already accepted his explanation. Unconvinced with what the marshal had relayed that there were only four and not five in their flight and that they did not overtake as they just went back to the clubhouse and later join their flight, the elder dela Paz approached Nasser Jr, obviously agitated at this time and pointed a finger at him and accusing him that there were two carts in their flight and that they (Nasser Jr) overtook them. This confused the younger Pangandaman, as he had already explained back at Hole No. 4 that they did not do so. He asked in a most respectful manner that he thought that they already had an understanding. Mr. dela Paz at the top of his voice accused him that Nasser Jr was wrong and began shouting profane words at the younger Pangandaman, saying, “P***** i** ka! Member ka ba dito, ha? Hindi mo ba ako kilala?” (”S.O.B! Are you even a member here? Don’t you know who I am?!”) In a calm voice and without revealing that he is the Mayor of Masiu, Lanao del Sur, Nasser Jr respectfully asked Mr. dela Paz why he was raising his voice at him when they were not arguing. The elder dela Paz reacted “Ikaw ang naghahanap ng away!”(”You’re the one looking for a fight!”), while pulling his umbrella and thrusted the pointed part and hit the belly of Nasser Jr, who backed up. This incident happened in front of the marshal who tried to interevene, but Mr. Delfin dela Paz pressed on, thus prompting Nasser Jr’s older brother Hussein, to come to his brother’s defense. Mr. dela Paz hit Hussein on the forehead and the two engaged in a fist fight.
Meanwhile, Nasser Jr., tried to prevent the two younger dela Paz from joining the fight but they got away from him and went in between their father and Hussein. The dela Paz siblings were able to hold Hussein preventing him to reach the elder dela Paz as if trying to pacify the two. Yet, Bino Lorenzo dela Paz kept punching Hussein in the face and Marie Dhel dela Paz from behind kept on scratching his face. At one point Mr. Delfin dela Paz even got a golf club driver and tried to hit Husseinbut Mr. Rene Maglanque was able to pry the club away from him. When Hussein turned his back on the elder dela Paz, Bino then got a golf club and tried to attack Hussein, but Nasser Jr was able to block Bino with his left arm, but hit his left hand. Sec. Pangandaman, Rene Maglanque, and another golfer from a different flight pacified everybody and asked the dela Paz’s to just leave them to prevent further trouble. Mr. Delfin dela Paz called someone in his cellphone and gave orders to come to the clubhouse because they’ve just had a fight with someone.
The dela Paz’s then left the golf course. Losing interest in the game as it was spoiled by the fight, both Sec. Pangandaman’s and Nasser Jr’s flights also returned to the clubhouse after about ten minutes. Hussein, attaining a bump on the forehead due to a punch by Mr. Delfin dela Paz and scratches on the face and neck, hurried to the men’s locker room to relieve himself and wash his wounds from the scuffle. But Mr. Delfin dela Paz blocked his path to the locker room and told him in a threatening voice that it wasn’t over between them and that he’ll take revenge. Hussein, obviously still angry from the brawl that ensued at the golf course asked why they still hadn’t left yet, when Bino again, pleaded not to hurt his fifty-six year old father, and him who’s fourteen, but with fists ready to punch. The Secretary’s elder son was engaged in another scuffle with the father and son followed by Marie Dhel, who came from behind Hussein, scratching him on his right cheek, neck, ear, while pulling and tearing his shirt.
The security and other golfers in the clubhouse who witnessed the encounter separated them, and as soon as that happened, Mr. dela Paz again shouted invectives at Hussein. Around this time, a loud commotion was heard by the entrance; it was Mrs. dela Paz and her two sons. The sons had with them baseball bats, and Mrs. dela Paz, in a house dress (duster), had with her a bladed weapon, all three looking as if ready to assault. The other golfers and security held them off so as to completely stop the fight. At this point, Sec. Pangandaman told his sons to leave already and the dela Paz’s to stop and leave, so that no more untoward incident would happen. The Pangandaman’s party had to leave through the parking exit because the dela Paz family was waiting for them at the clubhouse lobby.
I’m pretty sure that most, if not everyone, has already read the blog that Bambee dela Paz posted on her blog page. And I’m pretty sure that most, if not everyone totally sympathizes with the dela Paz family regarding the mauling incident allegedly initiated by the Pangandamans. But may I ask, before those hurtful comments were hurled at the DAR Secretary, the mayor of Masiu, Lanao del Sur, the rest of their family, and Muslims as a whole, did the people even bother for just a second to think what the other side had to say? Did they even bother getting information from the Pangandaman’s camp after reading Bambee dela Paz’s blog? I BET THEY DID NOT.
I just have a couple of more questions. If Mr. dela Paz and his children have been playing golf for such a long time now, then they should know their golf etiquette by heart now. If they are professional players, then why did they hit their drives WITHOUT giving any warning to the flight before them? Isn’t it a given to golfers to shout “Fore!” to players who may be potentially hit by the ball since they are in the way of it? Could they have forgotten to warn them TWICE?
Weren’t they supposed to NOT hit their drives unless the golfers before them are OUT OF THE GREEN?
And since it was a holiday, why did the dela Paz flight pushed to play on the golf course when A FLIGHT OF TWO IS PROHIBITED TO PLAY ON THE COURSE DURING HOLIDAYS as per club regulations? Does that mean they are exempted from the rules and regulations of Valley Golf and Country Club?
How can they claim that their flight was overtaken by Nasser Jr’s when they had registered to play on a flight before the dela Paz’s? Do you think the marshal will even escort Nasser and his friend to the golf course if that was really the case?
Why would Nasser Jr complain to the marshal about the dela Paz’s alleged slow playing as stated on reports when his flight is BEFORE theirs?
Why did Bambee leave out the part of what happened at Holes 4 and 5 and just continued her blog on the teehouse? Could she have forgotten to put in her blog that she was also part of the brawl on the course and hurt the older Pangandaman son? Your nails must be pretty long, Ms Bambee, those cuts dug in deep into Hussein’s skin.
Would Bambee even bother blogging about the incident that took place in Valley Golf had they had a tip-off with some other Christian elitist and not Muslim politicians like the Pangandamans? Would the media and the public pick up the story and show the same volume of sympathy for the dela Paz family if the other party concerned were just average, private Non-Muslim citizens?
Would the public still claim Mr. Delfin dela Paz and his children to be brave and courageous people if they had known that they already have a record of run-ins with other patrons of Valley Golf?
Do you seriously think that a person who works as a public official would actually put his reputation on the line over a game of golf regardless of faith or be for or against the administration?
Why are your statements inconsistent, Mr. dela Paz? Reports from different sources seem to vary. From what I know, a person who has had a traumatic experience has vivid recollections of the events that took place.
Like they said, it all started from a small misunderstanding. Had Mr. dela Paz accepted the explanation given to him by Nasser Jr. back at the course then none of this would have happened. This isn’t a case between an underdog and the powerful and mighty. This is a case between right and wrong. The dela Paz family claim that a lot of people have witnessed what took place. That’s what the Pangandaman family think too. Let those people speak up then! But to make quick judgments and accusations against the Pangandamans, politicians, and even Muslims in general, without enough knowledge and proper basis regarding both sides of the issue is just ridiculous and shows ignorance on your part. I am, just like everyone, am praying for this to be resolved.
The truth WILL prevail. Justice WILL be served.
The other side of the story is nothing but Pangandaman's version of the incident...or should I really call it an incident but judgement on the part of Pangandaman's since they are public officials. I'm sure they have many critics and if those critics in politics said something bad against them, right in their face, would that give them the right to respond by hitting the critics physically?
They claim your dad instigated the fight, but it doesn't really matter if this is true or not, does it?! Your dad could be a major pain for all I care, but in the end, the facts are, they beat up two DEFENSELESS people, who were obviously not threats to their security in any way! There is simply no, NO excuse for that.
I'm confused, why is this suddenly an issue about religion??
If some jackass made a comment about Muslims, well, he's a jackass! Lets not make this an issue about religion people, it is a totally different issue.
And regarding the specific details of the incident, in keeping with an open mind that this MAY be true, and that the elder dela paz MAY be a major jackass himself, and that he actually started all of this, it still doesn't excuse "respectable" politicians, who are expected to be gentlemen.
The Pangandamans were well defended & armed, & actually, judging from their background are more powerful in every other way than the dela pazes. They should've just backed down, because to react would already be an abuse of your power and I think this should be the main point of the issue, abuse of power.
And again, the usual excuse of people to this would be "tao lang po". Unfortunately, politicians in our country should understand this burden, they are not "tao lang po", otherwise there would always be a ready excuse to be mediocre or wrong, & there would always be an excuse to beat up other people.
i am saddened by what happened to your daddy and brother (and of course, now to your family). as i reflect on the behavior of public officials such as this and the cursing they made in public like what a senator did, and the undocumented stories relating to the public officials and servants in airports, parking lots, clubhouses, theatres, resorts, and other places, where they throw their political weights around, i am sad. there is so much abuse of power, reminiscent of the past. i watched the Sec in DZMM teleradyo defended his son like the son was "inutil" enough not to be able to air his side (for delicadeza, he should back off from the limelight and allow his son/s to defend themselves coz what Sen Pangilinan said is true). but he defended him like crazy and i didn't believe a word he said to our Vice-President Noli de Castro. i don't believe anymore that these public officials and servants are telling the truth...not anymore. my prayers go with you that you & your family may be healed from this incident and get justice not only from our law but from God.
In today's papers the Pangandamans HAD THE AUDACITY TO TALK ABOUT SENSITIVITY AND LETTING THE LAW TAKE ITS COURSE!!!! Lets just keep posting and posting because we can keep on posting for eternity and it will not be enough to get back at them for what they have done. The Pangandamans confuse their being royalties in their little “kingdom” with their being public servants of the Republic of the Philippines, and could not distinguish when to wield appropriate power in apt situations.
And in that case, the President should immediately come to the rescue of her Cabinet official and his mayor son, all together. She should fire her Agrarian Reform Secretary and banish him to his little “kingdom” in Lanao del Sur. This way, the Pangandamans would not be confused anymore, and the notion that every Filipino should know who they are, would be vanished from their minds.
I admire you for your courage. I hope you don't have to live in fear of them taking revenge, because as sad and disturbing as it is, these people are abusing their power. My God, guns?! I don't know if they haven't done this before. It's terrible.
Though I don't really know anything about golf, I know that punching and beating up people because of it is too much, bordering insane and just downright sick.
And who the hell cares if they're mayors or politicians or whatever? The more they should be ashamed of what they've done!
I pray for your family, that you recover from the physical and emotional damage they've caused, and that they have a conscience and turn themselves in! They will rot in hell. They should.
Take care.:)
fight on, bambi. i think they should die. the rest of the blogosphere are lucky you're a blogger. next time they beat up someone, they should ask, are you a blogger?
lilmissunshine said...
I sure hope they rot in hell! What they did was very barbaric and uncivilized considering they thrashed your father and brother in a public place. if they are people to look out for as what one of the beaters was arrogantly yelling why then would he do such thing in the first place? It just shows these people/ politicians are self-absorbed and pompous bastards. They are blinded by power which is ironic because it is the people who have bestowed them with this power in the first place. Ergo,they should be dealt accordingly and be removed from their offices. Nakakahiya sila!
Just keep on fighting and don't let them get away. I know justice will prevail.
We are praying for you and your family. Stay strong.:) God Bless.
Bai a Labi,
We HAVE read the Pangandamans' version of the events. And I'm sorry to say it stinks. No person in their right mind would believe such a blatant series of lies. It's so ridiculously transparent.
I'm willing to bet that these puppet blogs that are cropping up with the exact same copy/pasted account of the Pangandamans are from the same person/tiny group of people. I'm happy to watch your efforts to start a blogging revolution of your own burn and fail.
i read "the other side of the story" purporting to present the pangandaman side of the story. all i could gather from it are very skewed versions of bambee's story.
i'm sorry, i wanted to comment on the guy's blog entry but he somehow disabled any comments to be made on his entry. why is that?
whoever he was, let me tell him that after reading his account, my own slivers of doubts regarding bambee's story (doubts that arose due to the subjective view of the witness, of course) were completely erased.
bambee, keep up the fight. all of us who hate the proliferation of abuse like what the pangandamans did, we are behind you and will do our part however little it is to help you.
chin up. stay strong, and never forget the lessons learned. i hope we all do.
First, hope your Dad and brod are OK.
Second, hope too that those thugs rot in jail, then in hell.
Third, why would Valley Golf allow guns in the premises? Unfortunately, I don't live in the Philippines anymore - but those back home and who are interested in helping this family fight for justice, I would like to suggest to criticize the lack of a strong policy to ban guns in Valley Golf (and perhaps other similar places too).
These thugs cannot be allowed to perpetuate such horrible behaviour.
Back in their ittybitty Maranaw realm of Masiu, the Pangandamans are probably so used to throwing their weight around with nary a peep from cringing subjects. And then they set foot at Valley Golf and Country Club, entitlement and bully-bang mentality in tow.
Golf etiquette 101, you say? Simple rules of decency don't work with their ilk. People like the Pangandamans are law unto themselves. They will mow you down with impunity if they think you're in the way. That's how things work in their corner of the world.
They believe themselves above ordinary mortals, these petty datus with their caste system.
You, fighting to right a wrong, are anathema to them. They do not like their behavior questioned nor scrutinized.
Such is the culture of these of Maranaw overlords, I tell you.
He who watches over you will not slumber;
Indeed, He who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
Milagro na lang ang inaasahan ko kung magkakaroon tayo ng hustisya sa kaso ng mga Dela Paz laban sa mga PanganDEMON(YO). Bakit kamo, malaki ang utang na loob ni Pandak (GMA) sa kanila dahil sa pagkapanalo o pandaraya sa Lanao. May ebidensya na dahil sinama pa siya ni pandak sa bagyo matapos ang bugbugan sa VGCC. Ano ang aasahan natin sa NBI, DOJ (matandang tuta ni pandak si Gonzales), PNP, Army at kahit na sa VGCC ay walang dapat asahan dahil walang mga B*&%G ang mga executives ng VGCC na magsabi ng katotohanan, pati mga empleyado ay mga nabahag ang mga buntot. JAT,
I, too is a Mindanaoan. Compared to what other Mindanaoans have experienced in the hands of abusive politicians, the Dela Pazes' experience is peanuts (wa gani magkumingking) or shall we say a little as grain of corn.
This is what I am saying unless we help CHANGE our political way of thinking particularly in the countryside, this incident will happened over and over again.
I will bet my penny, these blogs won't help. What is really needed is action for political reforms in this country.
Noel V.,
A very good question, yes, indeed What is happening to us? Is the World really gone crazy? Or we just forgot what the bible says, "if someone throws you stone, throw bread in return".
We are now coming back in Biblical times. Thats why those bloggers who hit the Pangandamans in cursing and damn very unchristian words are only acting slowly, unknowingly turning like the Pangandamans?
While we admit we are only humans, do hate, love, symphatize with people, the judgment, at the end of the day, will be of God.
You better watch the interview of a Hamas convert who is son of one of the Hamas founding leader. His story is very inspiring to us Christians.
Judgment time is knocking in and warning the human race?
Pray my friends, pray and act too... NOW!!!
this is an example of discrimination against a minority. in the first place, wala sila sa territoryo nila, kaya why would they start a fight? i think it's the dela paz's who thinks they are in their territory that's why nang-away sila. if a man started a fight against you, would you back out twice or even thrice? NO WAY!
why would you judge the mayor? just because he is a politician? a muslim? why, do you know him? have you met him?
why would you side with the dela paz's? just because of this blog and the biased media? who knows, the dela paz's wanted publicity? or they are just stinking anti-muslims?
no one knows. no one knows about the real truth except God, so don't go throwing bad words against the pangandamans or it might bounce back to you.
